Meet Dole
Dole Plantation originally operated as a fruit stand starting in 1950, and then opened as Hawaii’s “Pineapple Experience” in 1989. In addition to being a leading supplier of pineapples on the island, Dole is a popular tourist attraction. They offer a Plantation Garden Tour, a Pineapple Express Train Tour, and an incredible Pineapple Garden Maze.
Harvesting in Hawaii
In Hawaii, with the absence of winter, operations happen year-round. The pineapple harvesting process is especially long, taking 12-18 months from plant to harvest. Dole can’t afford any downtime, making it absolutely essential that their tillage and harvesting equipment is functioning at full capacity at all times.
Additionally, the conditions in Hawaii are especially unique. Operators in Oahu are working with heavier clay, which is hard on the land and also puts a lot more stress on the equipment.
Given the nature of their business, anything that breaks needs to be repaired, well, yesterday; so remaining on top of equipment health and maintenance is essential to stay on schedule and keep up with demand..
