Papé Machinery Construction & Forestry was so proud to attend this year’s Oregon Logging Conference. The event was very well attended and a huge success, and we’re thrilled to continually support the Oregon Logging Conference and their mission to support the careers of forestry professionals in our region.
History of the Event
The Oregon Logging Conference has been running since 1938, and aims to assist forestry professionals in their pursuit of professional development.
Professional Development Initiatives
The Oregon Logging Conference provides extensive educational opportunities, scholarships, and career development programs for forestry professionals. Let’s take a look at some of their key programs and initiatives:
#1 Scholarships
In 1968, the Oregon Logging Conference Foundation Scholarship program was established. This fund awards scholarships to qualified students majoring in forestry-related fields and supports the career development of young forestry professionals.
#2 Career Day
During the conference, the Oregon Logging Conference hosts high school students throughout Oregon and southwest Washington at the Annual Future Forestry Workers Career Day. Students can learn firsthand about current career opportunities, and get exposure to state-of-the-art logging and forestry equipment on display at the conference. This is a fantastic way for students to learn about forestry, reforestation, logging, trucking, diesel mechanics, operating heavy equipment, firefighting, mills, and forest products manufacturing. We were thrilled to have an exhibit at the conference!
#3 Seminars
The Oregon Logging Conference hosts informative educational seminars and panel discussions on forestry-related topics. This helps young forestry students and professionals earn professional logger credits while networking with peers. There are a wide variety of industry-leading keynote speakers, and you can see a list of this year’s keynote speakers here.
#4 Education
The Oregon Logging Conference provides educational exhibits, donates to public education programs, and supports the Oregon Women in Timber’s free educational program, Talk About Trees. Talk about Trees presence science-based curriculum to K-8th grade students.
The 2023 Event
This year’s conference was held on February 23, 24, and 25 2023, and was the 85th anniversary of the Oregon Logging Conference. The conference was held at the Lane Events Center & Fairgrounds in Eugene, Oregon. Papé felt especially connected to this year’s conference, as we’re also celebrating our 85th anniversary this year!
This year’s theme was “Green Trees Matter. Healthy Forests = Healthy Future,” and had a lot of focus on sustainability and environmentalism.
Our Exhibit
Our exhibit this year was extremely well attended, and we loved providing educational information about the types of equipment and machinery we carry here at Papé Machinery Construction & Forestry.
We had a huge turnout at the Oregon Logging Conference Reception dinner that Papé hosted on Thursday evening. Inside our exhibition tent, Oregon State University provided forestry simulators. These were a huge hit!
